December 1st - 5th
Hello Room 10 families,
It was a full week of learning in Grade ¾. We are continuing to set routines with Literacy and Math Centers and have wrapped up our Science posters. This was also our final week with Ms. Andreea. Yesterday, we took some time to share our goodbyes and give gratitude for all the support and kindness she brought to our community. We look forward to welcoming her back in our classroom in the Spring.
Learning Intentions:
Grade 3:
I can share my ideas in a clear way using first, next, then, last. I can write to instruct someone.
I can write sentences that start with a capital letter and end with a period.
I can add sensory details (how something tastes, smells, feels, looks like, sounds like) to keep my reader interested.
Grade 4:
I can share my ideas in a clear way using first, next, then, last. I can write to instruct someone.
I can write sentences that start with a capital letter and end with a period.
I can write sentences that start in different ways.
I can add sensory details (how something tastes, smells, feels, looks like, sounds like) to keep my reader interested.
This week, students completed a procedural writing prompt, showcasing their understanding of sequencing, transition words, and how to write specific and detailed instructions. A copy of their work was sent home today.
Additionally, the students wrapped up their Read Aloud projects and had the opportunity to share their work with the class. We had a great time enjoying “act it outs”, looking at new book covers, sharing friendship recipes, and even a mock interview. The students challenged themselves and did a wonderful job presenting in front of the class.
Learning Intentions:
Grade 3:
I can describe solid, liquid, and gas states of matter in terms of the properties of shape and volume.
I can explain how matter can change state if heated or cooled.
Grade 4:
I can compare the different methods of waste management and discuss their environmental impacts.
I can develop a personal plan to reduce waste.
I can discuss local waste management programs.
I can represent a recycling process, using diagrams.
This afternoon, the students wrapped up their poster projects. They spent the week ensuring their posters were detailed, informative, and engaging. We are excited to hang up our posters next week.
We will also be starting our Social Studies rotations next Tuesday. The Grade 3 students will be joining Ms. Jocelyn and I will be welcoming some of Ms. Jocelyn’s Grade 4s to our room. The Grade 3 students will be looking at physical features in Alberta, while the Grade 4s will begin exploring European voyages to Canada in the 1500s.
Ways to continue the learning at home:
Practice adding 2 and 3-digit numbers, including regrouping (carrying over). Here is a great online resource for reviewing and practicing the concept.
Have your student verbally share instructions for a daily activity using sequencing words (first, next, then, after, finally).
Reminder and Updates:
Fridays are library exchange days - please have books returned by Thursday each week. Mrs. Bouchard is very impressed with how little overdue books we have!
December 11th - Photo Retakes
December 11th - Winter concert at 6:00 PM. Students are to arrive and come to the classroom at 5:40 PM.
Many students continue to wear their boots indoors. Please check in with your student as they may have outgrown their indoor shoes.
