March 16th - 19th

 Hello families!

This week, we loved the Mission Impossible challenge in PE, the beautiful Spring weather, and most of all, welcoming back Ms. Andreea to our classroom!

Learning Intentions:

Grade 3:

  • Compose a product, using equal groups of objects.

  • Model a quotient by partitioning a quantity into equal groups or groups of a certain size, with or without remainders.

  • Visualize and model products and quotients as arrays.

  • Recognize interpretations of multiplication and division in various contexts.

  • Solve problems, using multiplication and division in sharing or grouping situations.

Grade 4:

  • Describe the factors of a number within 100.

  • Determine the first five multiples of a given number within 100.

  • Recognize the greatest common factor of two numbers within 100.

  • Describe a number as prime or composite.

This week, we spent some time playing some new multiplication and division games. The students are enjoying playing a loved Math game, Salute, with a multiplication twist.

The Grade 3 students completed a review prior to completing their mid-point check-in in on Wednesday. After experiencing some nerves, we decided to re-do the check-in on Thursday. Students will have time to complete their check-ins after the break. After the break, we will continue with our multiplication and division learning.

The Grade 4 students have begun reviewing multiplication and division and are working on solidifying their understanding of basic multiplication facts. We have looked at tips and tricks to using a times table to recall basic facts and have looked at patterns with multiplying and dividing by base 10 numbers. After the break, we will continue by exploring strategies and standard algorithms for multiplication and division.

Learning Intentions:

Grade 3:

  • Write complete sentences in a logical sequence.

Grade 4:

  • Write complete sentences and paragraphs in a logical sequence.

This week, students were introduced to paragraph writing, exploring topic sentences, supporting details, and closing sentences. The students used anchor charts to support them in practicing skills, such as writing 4 different types of topic sentences, adding 2-3 supporting details that include facts, examples, opinions, and personal experiences, and ending paragraphs with closing sentences that summarize the main ideas, convince the reader, and encourage them to take action. After the break, students will work to plan, organize, and create structured paragraphs on a topic of their choice.

    • Nasturtium Flower: Full sun to partial shade. In hot areas, provide afternoon shade. Prefer poor, well-drained sandy soil. Blooms early summer to frost.

    • Jade Bean: Full sun. Require consistent moisture, particularly during flowering. May require support from a trellis to keep vines off the ground.

    • Raxe Radish: Full sun. Keep in well-drained, loose soil. Maintain consistent moisture, keep soil cool. Harvest when radishes are the size of large marbles. Leaves and developing seed pods are also tasty.

    • Sugar Pod Pea: Full sun. Water consistently to keep soil moist, and harvest once pods are plump.

Enjoy your Spring Break!
