May 4th - 8th

Hello families!

Room 10 had a great week, working on a Spring time art project, enjoying our cricket residency, and creating animal trading cards in Science.

Learning Intentions:

Grade 3:

  • I can investigate and discuss how plants and animals respond to stimuli in their environments in order to survive

  • I can explore food chains in local environments

Grade 4:

  • I can discuss how plants respond to sensory stimuli

  • I can relate the external structures of plants to their functions

  • I can find and classify examples of local plants and animals based on appearance, habitat, and structures

This week, students worked hard to research 4 animals, noting down their scientific name, height/length, weight, diet, and unique adaptations that support their survival. Students then created trading cards, drawing detailed illustrations to represent their chosen animals. The students will be finishing these up next week by gluing their artwork and information onto cue cards.

Learning Intentions:

  • I can use watercolours and chalk pastel techniques to represent texture

  • I can make the centre of interest prominent by contrasting its size, shape, colour or texture from the other parts of the composition

  • I can add details, patterns or textures to two-dimensional works

This week, students created beautiful paintings of flowers in a vase. Students used watercolour and chalk pastel to create unique compositions with bright colours to represent the season of Spring. To achieve the background, students tried out the wet on wet technique, adding puddles of colour to paper that had already been made wet with water. They also used chalk pastels to create vibrant vases by smudging the chalk with their fingers. Students brought these home today to share with their families.

Updates and Reminders:

  • Students' paragraph writing prompts were sent home this week. Please take some time to review your student’s writing with them.

  • Please ensure your student is coming to school with enough snacks and snacks that they enjoy eating. We have had a few conversations as a class about food waste, as we have noticed several uneaten food items by our coat hooks and in our garbage/recycling bins. At the same time, we have a lot of students asking for snacks throughout the day.

  • Papa Johns Fun Lunch - May 15th

  • Volunteer Tea - May 28th

  • Jelly Modern Donuts Fun Snack - May 28th

Enjoy your weekend and Happy Mother’s Day!
